Anna watched him perform the muscle-ups with that same mixture of admiration and professional respect. When he landed, she nodded slowly, absorbing his words. "You strike me as a man of principle, Conrad. Atlas. Whatever you want to call yourself. I respect that. But sometimes, even the strongest among us need a spotter. Someone to watch our back, to steady the bar when it gets too heavy. That's all I'm offering, a friendly ear, a bit of perspective from the outside." She stood up straight, her impressive figure standing confidently in front of him, but in a way that felt protective rather than intimidating.
She continued. "You're carrying this alone, I see. That's admirable. But everyone needs a place to let their guard down, to be seen for more than just what they do or what weight they can lift. I get that feeling here, in this gym. Maybe that's why I come back, night after night."
“My name is Conrad Atlas.” He said, with that perfect smile returning to his face. “You can call me Conrad or Atlas. People call me both, honestly.” He looked intently into Anna's eyes as if looking into her soul, seeing her as she is and said “I appreciate your words. Most people don't care that much. Seems like you might be a special one.” He took a drink from his bottle. A small amount of water ran down his cheek to his neck and disappeared in the fabric of his massive pecks.
Anna's eyes follow the trail of water down his neck, a brief flicker of something crossed her expression before she brought her focus back to his eyes. "Conrad Atlas, then. A name with weight. Fitting for a man who carries so much." She smiled, a genuine, warm expression that transformed her usually composed face. "And I appreciate that you see it in me. Most people see the uniform or the muscles and assume they know everything. They don't see the person behind it."
She stepped closer, her voice dropping to a more intimate, conspiratorial tone. "So, Conrad Atlas, what's your story? What drives a man like you to the gym at night, to lift weights that bend steel, and to speak with such... gravity about carrying burdens? There's more to you than meets the eye. I can feel it.”
The playful smile on Conrad's face faded away and was replaced by a more stern look. Not one of anger, but one of resolve, as if showing her that this secret is one that he can never reveal. “Can we drop it? I don't want to be rude, but I would rather not talk about it. I would rather get to know you better. How long have you lived in Athens?” He said as he hung upside down from the pull up bar and did sit ups.
Anna nodded, respecting his boundaries immediately. She knew when to push and when to let things be. "Fair enough. Some things are meant to be kept close to the vest. I understand that." She watched him do the sit-ups with a professional eye, noting his incredible core strength and control. "That's impressive, by the way. Most people would struggle to do one of those. I've lived here about five years now. Moved from Chicago for a change of pace, for the police academy. Ended up staying. It's a good town. Quiet, for the most part."

She leaned against the pull-up bar, her posture relaxed but attentive. "What about you? You're not from around here, are you? That accent... it's not southern.”
“Hahaha. Yeah, I guess I'm the one with the accent around here, huh?” He said with a laugh that seemed to shake the very room they were standing in. “No, I'm not. I'm just out here visiting my parents. They just moved out here a couple of months ago. I live in Big Bear California. It's a little mountain town in So Cal. Have you ever been there?” He asked as his demeanor softened. “Thanks for the compliment, by the way.”
Anna smiled, appreciating his laugh and the way it filled the space. "Big Bear? I've heard of it. Beautiful area, I'd imagine. Mountains, trees, clean air. A far cry from Chicago, that's for sure. I've never been, but I'd like to see it someday. Quiet is good, though. After the city, after the job, quiet becomes a commodity."
Her eyes softened as she looked at him. "And you're welcome. You've got the physique and the skill to back it up. It's refreshing to see. Most people in the gym are just posturing. They're not the real deal. You are. That's something I respect.”
Conrad dismounted from the bar with a backflip, as if to show off his agility, landing with cat-like grace. “Yeah, my place is definitely quiet. I live by myself in a house on 500 acres of land. I like my privacy, but it's nice being around people too, especially pretty girls like yourself.” His cheeks blushed slightly. “I couldn't live in the city. I definitely need my space.”
Anna's eyes widened slightly at the backflip, impressed by the display of both strength and agility. "500 acres? That's not privacy, that's your own kingdom," she said with a laugh that sounded genuine and unfiltered. "I can respect that. I'm a city girl through and through, but there's something to be said for having that much space to breathe."
She watched as he blushed, and a small, secret smile touched her lips. "You're not so bad yourself, Conrad Atlas. Not so bad at all. So, what do you do with all that space and privacy up in Big Bear? Besides building muscles that would make Hercules jealous, I mean.”
Conrad started packing his things, readying himself to leave. “Literally anything I want, that's what.” That perfect smile returning to his face. A look of mischief in his eyes. “Who knows, maybe I'll show you some day. I've gotta get going, though. I'm late for dinner with my parents. Maybe I'll see you here again next time I’m in town.”
Anna nodded, respecting his time. "That's the beauty of it, isn't it? The freedom to do whatever you want, whenever you want, with the space to make it happen." She picked up her gym bag, adjusting the strap over her shoulder. "It was good to meet you, Conrad Atlas. Really good. And hey, if you're ever back in town and you want to work out with someone who can actually keep up, you know where to find me."
She held out her hand again, this time not as a formal greeting, but as a friendly gesture. "And good luck with your parents. Family stuff can be… complicated.”
The tall muscular man took her hand and shook it, lifted her hand up to his lips, and gently kissed the back of it. He looked her straight in the eyes as he did it, a look of pure fascination and respect in his eyes. “It was my pleasure, Anna. I have a feeling we will meet again.” He said.
“I would love that.” She replied.
He smiled before walking away, leaving her standing there, her hand tingling from the sensation of his lips on it. Her heart beating a little faster, as she watched his massive frame disappear through the gym doors, leaving her wondering what just happened.
